crack the shell

By alex herewane

Silent cracked lips
flakes of skin and flesh
twist and fall
wounding the viewer with my own death
A live skeleton bleeding softly
I hold what is left of me
swaying
listening to your frightened screams

Every soul in this slow moving nightmare has a built in sequel of tomorrow
every bed a trap door
every fantasy a song, playing silently in the darkness
crack the shell,
hold the I
split the soul
be the one you have trapped inside
drink from the milk of paradise laced with honey dew
close your eyes, not in dread, face the horrid truth
the one you are denying is the one laughing at you
thru eyes made from ice
crack the shell
hold the I
or join me in my self sacrifice

  • A former member wrote: the imagery in this poem is fantastic drink from the milk of paradise. wow

  • A former member wrote: I like the image of skeletons being able to bleed... it's as if you are opening doors, stepping through surfaces, "be the one you have trapped inside".. the question of who is the real you, the laughter such a mockery, a slippery dissociation... what is under the shell? I find it very intriguing.

well done, a layered darkness... the first stanza was fantastic, it drew me in and I couldn't stop reading... crack the shell, hold the I... welcome to the dark side of writing... more please
