The Tree

By starrynite522

 There it stands so tall and proud;
With limbs outstretched reaching towards the sky.
All I can do is look at it with bitter, tear-filled eyes.

There it stands alone in the field;
With limbs outstretched reaching towards the sky.
I want to spear it with a copper nail; watch it wither and die.

There it stands around the bend;
With limbs outstretched reaching towards the sky.
The cause of endless nights, filled with grief-stricken cries.

There it stands like a painful memory;
With limbs outstretched reaching towards the sky.
A heart-wrenching piece of nature that forever changed our lives.

There it stands as an unmarked grave;
With limbs outstretched reaching towards the sky.
The tree that stole my friend's life, long before he should have died.

    I like the idea of a tree killing someone. It reminds me of a dream I had as a child about falling out of the tree. After all of these years, it's still horrifying. Thank you for sharing. :)
