Energy

By TheUltimateOutlaw

Energy is contagious;

You must make it your own.
You must give it a name;
Like spark or flair or conduit.
You must pour your essence
Into it;

Like running water,
Like electric light,
Like streaming sunshine,

Like something slippery and shiny and sparkling
That you gave a name too;

Call it amazing,
Call it epic,
Call it thunder,

Call it the ghost of the seven seas that haunt your soul,

Call it the breathless nights where the moon hangs
So low and red and perfect

That you call it beauty.

Energy is contagious;

You must keep it safe.
You must guide it on its journey,
You must protect it always

From the saddness in the next room over.
From your mother’s hopeless marriage.
From your father’s dead brothers.
From the boys who fuck you then never call.

Energy is contagious;

You must make it your own.
You must keep it safe.
You must give it a name like

Love.
