A Clean Break

By TheUltimateOutlaw

You said you wanted to make
A clean break—

Engage in some sort of surgical procedure;

That would slice off a few pounds
Of unnecessary flesh—

And break the bond between us;

Never mind that we were born
Something like Siamese—

That our nerve endings were intertwined;

That when you chanced to remove your beat
From my heart—

All of the synapses faltered;

Lungs collapsed, knowing that they needed
Your air;

They just could not keep breathing;

Muscles atrophied, requiring your touch
For their grace—

They no longer held the weight of our world;

You said you wanted to make
A clean break—

And you vivisected us both.
