Horizons up in smoke

By Ashteroth

Just a man
born I am
tired and waverin'
Near an end
once again
a time that's not worth savoring

Man has brought about the age of technology
evolution is the hype, science gaining full velocity
but one disease on it's way out
sees another come to be
if our knowledge is the light
why are we so blind to see

There is no worth in money - unless it feeds the hungry men
those growing ill within the nations - that are to poor to defend
against the inclinations
of those plotting for revenge
or just plain domination - starting wars that never end

But the strangest irony,
...despite our many boasts
in this wondrous new century
we're lacking any growth
in things like common decency
or the things that matter most
why can we not make peace
and brothers of our foes

Sometimes I sigh
and wonder why
I'm still alive - I pass the time
another crime - addicted minds
another women softly cries

Her assailant flees
and if caught pleas
he suffers from insanity
which made him leave the bar to sleaze
on a victim that's to carefree

And I glare at dark horizons as they choke up in the smoke
AT least industry is rising with the sinking of my hopes
But my spirits still survives,
cause maybe if I just wrote
my view on all our lives,
someone else won't feel alone
