Look What Tune the Cat dragged In.

By Dr Benway

A few hours 'till sunrise
and out of thin air
Ta-da!
on my door step you appear
like some hocas pocas hobo
looking for shelter from the rain

And those eyes
shamed under
and glazed over
two steps from graceful
and ten from aware

Oh, how could I forget
that old familiar song
"Damn, been awhile huh?"
"I almost didn't make it here!"
"mind if I take a nap?"

And then it begins
the hissing and coughing
that tuberculosis yawn
like a pissed upon fire
snap
crackle
babel
spit
you belt out your "pity me" junkie opera
the performance?
well no one attends

Now the show comes to a close
and it's off to your old bed
not a second for bathing
nor a moment for guilt.
"We will talk in the morning"
"I promise, I do!"

You don't even bother to take off your boots.
you never used to sleep in your boots...

Such a familiar tune… I read this a few days ago and then life stepped in. And as I listen to her speak, feel the tears and each question of why like knives...it made me long for the cat to drag him back home sooner because anything that cat might bring now will have to be dug up. Scholar

i can relate to these feelings

  • A former member wrote: caught between then and now,..times like these the 'then' could once again become the 'now'....the dilemmas in turning away the person we used to be,..or helping another find what we've become....even when its over,...its never truly over......nicely captured.

  • A former member wrote: it's fatal humor covered in seriously intense writing ... great work
