Powder monkey

By skully

I thought that I was the only one
Until I heard your talk that day
Thought to be an already set sun
Just me lost in my lonely decay

I had begun to think that only me
Stank and stole and begged in the corner
Then when you spoke I learned it was We
I’m no longer a lost, empty solitary mourner

Tears of this and tears of that and why?
Rolled down my red hot glowing face
Afraid you might see where I was at
I bent down to tie an imaginary lace

The howl had been waiting for all of this time
Welled up inside, disguised as hatred, phlegm
Now I realised it was really mine
Tears so precious I had to own them

I’m an addict now no longer a junkie
Can hold my head high as I live in the present
Trying to right the wrongs of the past,
Learning to love where I could only resent
