I built a god

By beamish

I built a god in my garage
Big and shiny with power to spare

I wound him up and put him on the stage to play

To my dismay the audience all started to pray
Raising hand
Calling his name

I used a mic and asked them to believe
Give to him freely and great rewards you will receive

One would have thought I was at a strip bar
$ started to fly
Cash covered the floor
Belief filled every eye

But then he wound down
God just sat still

I knew it was over and I feared I might get killed

But no
They just chanted
Wind him
Wind him again

Forgive our sins

Write a book - make him legit

It doesn't matter if he's just wire and steel
We need a God
We believe he's real

Wind him fast and make him spin

We will give all our money
Dedicate our lives
If need we will even die

Just
let him forgive our sins
Give us something we can

blindly believe in

I feel like nothing is lost on the reader, who is shown through steady examples how easily people in this day and age can defy our expectations. The crowd you described reminds me a lot of people who like to discuss politics. Often it's less a discussion and more like a revolving door. Good commentary. Good write.

    There is a lot of meaning here. And I feel it. There's some political (religious) outlook here that makes me think very hard about the world we live in. Great write.

    Thank you. We all need to think and question any belief system pushed at us. I apperciate your comments

    That first line, "I built a god in my garage" is so casual and matter-of-fact, which makes it very effective in setting a cool tone for this piece. Ciao, T/S Scholar
