The Tale of a Girl Without a Voice

( I know this is rather long, but it's a story )

Sat she, crouched in a tree,
on a cliff in the mountains
at dusk.
Light reflects around her-bright.
Her silhouette is dark like
the night.

Higher than she sits a boy.
His smile is just a decoy-
a mask.
His gaze is focused on her,
a fire within him burns
for her.

And her heart she's been gripping
was sown shut after ripping
in two.
But she drops it and it breaks
and the earth beneath her shakes
open.

Falls toward spikes at the bottom,
all her words are forgotten
in shock.
This is his very last chance
to hold her-just one last glance
she falls.

He may die, he can't discern,
if he reaches to catch her
no time.
He leaps from the cliff-sure aim
dives reaching out, cries her name
in need.

She looks up and reaches out.
Their hands meet and time is now
frozen.
Rocks tear up his hand as he seeks
a hold, so desperately
stone walls.

His hand catches the root of
the tree bearing memories-
sweet fruit.
Hand in hand they hang from it
shy eyes meet for a moment
of peace.

Faced with death, he sheds all shame
his lips part and he whispers
her name.
