Prayer For Despair

By Muse

"Now I lay me down to sleep..."
Butterflies tainted by flames
Their delicate wings curling beyond belief
Burning green, roaring black
Sipping from your life blood with the serenity of Death

"I pray the lord my soul to keep..."
Fractured hope lies bleeding
In the broken hands of a fallen god
His promises never to be fulfilled
A sadist never to be denied

"If I should die before I wake..."
Prancing demon horses toss their manes
Ebony coats spiked with sweat
Blind white eyes wild and rolling
To stare you down and grace your nightmares

"I pray the lord my soul to take..."
Ripped from your existence with heartless ease
To plummet downwards
Level upon plane, forever upon never
Straight to the Dark One's waiting, open embrace

"Amen."
