What We Take for Real

By johntaiyu

They taught us
about our basic human needs.
For love, and belonging, and what all else
the particular guru de jure
suggested.

We learned to feel.
We discovered our inner childs.
We saw the family as a system.
And we learned about unconscious drives.

Only later,
when the black dark cold wet awareness
of where that led
became clear,
did we then begin
to let go
of all these theories
and notions
which merely serve
imperfectly
to justify
and explain
what we take for real
on a daily basis
without words.
