They are developing
these pills
that supposedly take away
the craving
for alcohol
we drunks have.

Which seems
pretty threatening
to a lot of folks
who have built their lives
around the romanticism
of recovery
culture.

Which reminds me
of when the same thing happened
with depression
and how the therapists
and depressed
thought
how
that
would
never
work.

Well now
you'd be a fool
not to take
them pills
if you were sad
all the time
because it turns out
they work
pretty good.

And it maybe
turns out
that for a lot of us
all that
talking
talking
talking
about sadness
in the end
actually
made
it worse.

So now
what will they do
what will we do
when that
fucking drunk pill arrives
if it really works?

One thing
for sure
we'll have
to find
something
else
to
talk
about.
