Wilma

By MidniteBlaze

Days and days of loneliness
times seems to be the same again even after
this hurricane as tragic as it is for us
as tragic as it was for some of us
while it seems we have recovered greatly as a community
to settle as civilized people
we have not progressed
everyone seems to be in things for themselves
unfair judgements and discrimination
still eating away at the weak minds

Staying alongside the hall
worried while everyone has put up thier shutters
much quicker than us and much better quality
metal shutters put up with power tools
as opposed to large heavy boards put up with nails
the storm starts and i try to sleep it all through
waking up to find out that one of the panels ripped off
unlike the past few
worried a bit
perhaps a bit scared
but I fell asleep and woke up
pretty close to the end of it all

Helping the family put the shutters up
for whatever they were good for
helping move the massive branches away
everyone suddenly acts like they know one another
a false sense of hope
all to benefit for themselves in the end
when it all is done and over with
the family bond disappears

Many fortunate souls
now happy with their power back
while some of us still do not
but perhaps it is better this way
the few of us who do not have power
seem to bond and share the little they have
nothing as tragic as 9/11
however a great lesson to be learned indeed

(A tribute to all my fellow darkpoets, wishing you all safety and good health through the hurricane)
