So Close to Death

By Atalanta

One night back in merry ole' London, my life was changed forever. It was like any other night. Got ready for work, ate with Tom, then I went to work at a little pub. Of course, I would have the night shift. London at night is simply not safe, even for natives. Well, one night as I was heading home, I saw some manic looking men standing by this hotel. One of them had a gun. I picked up my pace a bit as I walked past them to the Underground station. They started makeng lewd remarks at me, saying that they wanted to fuck me. I started to run, but it was a bit too late. The sound of the gun tore through my heart as the bullet tore through my stomach. Everything went black as I fell to the ground. My aunt told me when I woke up in the hospital, that a Harrods department store employee found me. If I had been left even five more minutes, I would have died. I am now in Yorkshire, with no plans to immediately return to London. I will never forget the pain that surged through me. I had to talk to the police about that night, and they are doing their best to catch and punish the man that did this to me. I am so glad to be alive.
