Unrewarded

By Anaelle

Love goes unrewarded
When the rose bush grows wild
The moon bouncing off every thorn
Twisting the shadows in painful memories
Where have you gone?
Slipping through my fingers like water
Did I ever really have a grasp?
The vines turn and encircle
Deadly intentions shining through
Illuminated by that eerie glow
Seeds giving way to evil spirits
Wet fingers only scraping on rocks
Blood replacing the water that once
...Cleansed
Running down bare skin, sticky and thick
Turned purple by the Goddess' careful gaze
Will you pull me from such torture?
Or leave me to drown in rose petals
Suffocated by that sweet, natural perfume
Vines curling around wrists and fingers
Caresses could have been so sweet...
Would have been loving...
...If only...
The roses bloom, but without notice
Full, round, perfection in their own right
But what happened to the beauty?
...Unrewarded
