Drowning

By Anaelle

Trying to breath against a wall of water
How long has it been since I've drowned?
You can't taste the tears...
When you're swallowing down the sea
Salt against my throat and tongue
I didn't think it'd burn so...
Smooth against my skin, never rough
I'd always thought it was a loving caress
Boiling red, bursting the skin once soft
Bubbling to the surface...

You can't taste the tears...
When you're swallowing the sea
Washed out, faded fears...
How is it you've invaded me?

A blurred face, why do you smile at me?
Ripples contorting your features
Is there a point to reaching upwards?
Water always comes in waves
But it's beginning to burn...
And I can't stop the pain...
How has it come to this?
I know you're crying, but I can't see the tears
Splashing against the surface
They only get mixed in with the salt

You can't taste the tears...
When you're swallowing the sea
Washed out, faded fears...
How is it you've invaded me?

You're beginning to fade to black
My fingers can't reach the surface
It's starting to grow comfortable
And I no longer feel the pain
Have you stopped crying?
Or are you staying the same?
I didn't think I'd slip away this slowly
...Why haven't you tried to save me?
And even though the black is suffocating
I can still feel you watching...

You can't taste the tears...
When you're swallowing the sea
Washed out, faded fears...
How is it you've invaded me?
