Reality's Hell

By Anaelle

I ran to you during the night
Hoping you'd steal my heart with your passion
But you were hiding where I was blind to see
In your own self illusionment
I searched for you
Vainly
With eyes tired from crying
I screamed out your name
But only Echo whispered it back in my ear
Filling my head with my own quivering voice
I prayed desperately to a god
Who was dead before he was born
To lead me to you
But mocking laughter answered my pleas
Driving me to the cliff of Insanity
Urging me to jump
But I lingered on the edge
Looking over into the abyss
Staring into Infinity's black eyes
I waited for a sign from you
A sign that would pull me back from this hell I've created
But I only saw the twisted face
Of the dead god hovering in front of me
Pulling my soul apart
Piece by painful piece
Grinning with his laughing eyes
His voice only mocking my own whimpers of
Fear
Pain
Emptiness
And Isolation
I began to laugh at you then
Giving up on ever finding you
I laughed at you madly
Standing on Insanity's cliff
This dead god's mockery
Becoming the marrow in my bones
But I loved you still
Even when Infinity started grabbing at my ankles
And I continued to cry your name
Needing something to hang on to
Even if that something isn't real
But in a world of dead gods
Where they laugh at their own childrens' misery
And in a world where you're afraid to sleep at night
Because Insanity's cold, smooth fingers
Might choose you as their next victim
To wrap themselves around your neck
Telling you Infinity will take care of you
How can that be reality?
But how can it not
When you've seen nothing different
And there's no escape
