Vulpine

Vulpine

As the cat sat on my chest,

As the shadow lurked in my doorway,

While the witch cast spells of failure,

I dreamt of ashes and smoke.

As the fairy gripped hold my conscience,

As the wizard pointed his wand towards the sky,

While the Troll ate my sweetest dreams,

I dreamt of darkness and the fire.

As the Gnome crept from my garden,

As the vampire drank my salty blood,

While the dragon flew over my home,

I dreamt of death and cried.

As the Pauper begged on the corner

As the Prince set out to steal my soul

While Princess mourned in my bathroom,

I dreamt of the cold and the white.

As the Wraith tip toed around my kitchen

As the snake slithered into my shoes

While the Reaper laughed in amusement,

I dreamt of damnation and my doom.

As the werewolf tracked my aroma

As the Trickster distracted my friends

While Genghis Khan sent his kesikten my way

I dreamt of surrender and the end.

As the monsters began closing in on me

As my freedom was ripped from my hands

I woke up covered in sweat, full of fear

Understanding the real monsters are all human.
