Extinction

Extinction

~

Extinction

~

Lost,

Emaciated...

She nudges her mate

Where the blood pores out

From a gaping wound.

Her offspring now gone too;

Appendages left in the hot sun

By the relentlessness

Of carnivorous predators;

The carnage of lifes motion.

~

She stares out across the horizon

As if looking for an answer

In what to do next...

Sensing a finality.

A bony, malnourished ribcage

Extends itself

From her onion-skin membrane.

Her eyes milky

And exhausted

The result from

That of a transitory run.

Without a mate

She now stands in the crosshairs

Of a timelined oblivion.

~

The apocalypse

...now her drumbeat.
