Dusk Dowry

By Litteratus

The bride bathed in her gown of golden light
Shone though born to a Radiance past prime.
The mosaic sky colored the rite,
Gleaming glass over the Priest of Time.
Blown banners of icy fleece above
Glittered a soft rose, fallen-star chose.
A chorus aloft sang hymns of Love
'Til the diurnal hour did close;
Whence the violin-wing symphony
Announced the gloom-garbed groom's entrance-
All coolness, sweet darkness, harmony.
Night smiled in the sparkle of Day's glance.
Floral musk flowed as if to smother
As dusk brought together the sweethearts.
Speaking through the actions of another,
The Priest wed standing silent, apart.

Night, haloed in his love's pristine glow,
Said, "As a maiden with hood o'erplaced
Lets less fine features carelessly show,
She sharpens the glory of her face."

"When we walk the Trail of Twilight,
Savoring the flowers and their scents;
Had not before they been merely bright
Though now they twinkle iridescent?"

"With this poignant property in mind,
Under moonlight I have searched the land,
Yet naught worthy of you could I find-
So please, sweet Day, hold my empty hand."

"Fear not, our ring shall be my embrace;
Dark and light shall form stellar alloy
Where the cosmic winds do dance and race-
A Star eternal against the Void."

So they lifted from earthen carriage,
Lovers climbing the sky's jeweled terrace.
Thus Time sealed the celestial marriage,
Blessed under the guide rays of Polaris.
