Without You Here

By quantummysticist18

No police can govern this realm
With Captain Madness at the helm.
The streetlights shine far dimmer now
Than when you left and took a bow.
Now tourists drive through empty roads
While scientists decipher codes
And I am stuck here writing odes
To long forgotten episodes.

No militia can hold us back
Us troubadours who dress in black.
The birds who sing for scant tomorrows
Drown in melody their sorrows.
You never said when you’d return
And as the forest fires burn
I gradually have come to learn
The contents of the primal urn.

No fighter jet can shoot me down
So long as I wear this thorny crown.
The friends I thought were in my pocket
Fill instead an empty socket.
Without you here my lungs are still
Condemned to breathe but through my gill.
The words imprisoned in my quill
Must carry out the final kill.

Oh QTM - your paired couplets were superbly fashioned and the rhymes lent to some very unique and mystical metaphors. This was so good that I had to go back and see where I was. Cheers! - Dan
