Do Not Leave Flowers Upon My Grave
By Dimensions
Do not leave flowers upon my grave,
For unattended they will die,
And be safe from all - save,
The lonely passer-by.
Decorate not my resting place,
Its modesty is quaint,
No motley colored fringe or lace,
Leave such honors for the saint,
No need for whispered visits late,
Or tearful soliloquy,
The grave is only our silent fate,
Of damp, deaf body - spirit absentee.
So all your words will only fall,
Upon my vanquished ears,
And never give back life to all,
Your misplaced youthful years.

Thank you Willow, it has been some time since I've even reread this myself. I thank you bc it's your poem "Silent Choir" that brought me back to this site to read others as well as review my own...and for that I am truly grateful. Who knows, I may just find some renewed enthusiasm to write but that will either happen or it wont...these things must give birth to themselves. Thank you again Willow...I'll be checking up on more of your poems soon.

Hi Dime, and almost an "I told you so" ending here maybe. I think cremations are now about 50% and increasing. I'm an organ donor too; hoping there's not a "no deposit / no return" policy when I check out. Cheers for this lonely, last request - Dan

Beautifully written and the flow of words was great. I couldn't agree more with your perspective.

Creatureofthenight, as always thank you very much. This was an oldie of mine that just rejects materialism and pageantry...seems that not only do we need it in this life to feel worthy but also after we're gone.
