Night blessing

By Jessica Orr

they say
a dark
place dwells
in strange
places.

they are not correct,
as it chocks
suburban bliss;
the knife may seem
a false king;
but he rules the same.

words saddened,
it is real;
it was all I knew
I may cry, wrestle,
scream but
I can’t help it.
