Fear; Monster

Fear; Monster

~
Fear, Monster
~
A cast iron radiator
Hisses vapor
Like an agitated dragon.
Leaves outside
Have all fallen from their barren branches;
Now clawing at the blacktop.
~
Newspapers neatly cut and taped
Into each window pane to
Circumvent lights antagonizing intrusion.
A sink overflowing
With soiled dishes
Competes for space with the
Scurrying of Supella Longipalpa,
Better known
As a local cockroach.
~
Left wing publications
Carpet the walls of cinnabar.
It's impossible not to relive
Misdeeds and feel
The exhilaration;
The pulse below the skin
Heightening the senses.
~
A single inhabitant
Moves zombie-like from room to room
Waiting impatiently for
Evening to arrive.
Hopefully the rain will follow
Making it necessary
To go out into the night darkness
Where he can move about unmasked;
Unseen amongst
The populace...
With few contemporaries.
~
He looks over his
Souvenirs and trophies.
Clothing and jewelry... mostly;
Even though his tooth collection
Fashions the height
Of his inner pride and admiration.
~
The leaves have all fallen
Clawing at the blacktop.
Chafing his existence;
They have all died...
And he cannot.
There is always more work to do.
