Rainbow Melancholy

By Dark Unicorn

I paint a rainbow over the horizon's ledge,
It reeks of shredded hearts and vanilla death,
Spikes of indignation bleed from its edge,
Vines of withered petals creep across its breadth.

I cast the rainbow with a demented sort of mirth,
My long, ebony serpent dancing amid the stars,
A black song of terror devours all the earth,
Feeding the dark parabola enough to escape from its bars.

I carve this rainbow in the shadows of four nights,
It blooms from my fingertips in five shades of black,
Two pairs and one are the demons my crystal skull fights,
But three seconds into the ring I hear my skin crack.

I splatter my rainbow with the velvety thread from my veins,
My crimson embroidery appears frayed in the skies,
Scarring the swathes of blue with thorns and stains,
I hum my first dirge as the last of five dies.
