How do you play Hide&Seek when theres noone around to find you?

By EMOheart

I reside behind a mask of contentment
And when you look you see
The girl I see in the mirror
With her painted on smile

But when I'm alone...
The porcelain cracks and the smile fades
And when I let go,
It all comes flooding back
The agonizing loss
The burn of longing
The deep, dark, depths of depression.

I let the tears run
Like shining black rivers
Down my face
To mingle with
The crimson pools at my wrists...
My wrists...
A crosshatching of bloody streaks
On a silvery backdrop
Displaying my past and present for all to see

But no one ever sees
They never look
They never see the depth
Of the despair in my eyes
The windows to my broken soul...
Broken...
By a broken past
I keep boarded up and buried deep
Beyond anyones reach
But maybe for today
Ill dig up those old bones and put them on display
For all to see.
To see the tears
While my lifeline was beaten and bloodied
To watch
As I grew up before my time
To see my fear
As I struggled to find a way to get away...and failed
And show them all
What they are blinded to
But in the end...
They'll...
Never...
See...
Because

I reside behind a mask of contentment
And when you look you see
The girl I see in the mirror
With her painted on smile.

Author's Note:

So...This is the slam poem I created for my English class. I read it in front of the class for a contest and it got me second place, only because apparently profanity is poetic nowadays and the class liked it. I hope you all enjoy it more then they did...
