Gotta get up

By Ashteroth

(Verse)
It's so easy to just sit around
and focus on feeling down
wearing that same old frown
cuz "life is far too tough"

let's set our sights to narrow view
where certain loss keeps coming true
there's simply nothing one can do
bout now I've heard enough

(Chorus)
I've lingered in my darkest intent
I feel a sincere regret
it felt as though my soul
was so truly dead
beyond compelled to repent
so on my wrath I relent
to take up self control
and lay down torment

(Verse)
It's so easy to keep giving in
but in this life I want to win
if the world around you seems so dim
you need to be a light

If past mistakes keep coming through
replace the old ways with the new
then reassess the things you do
until you get it right

(Chorus)
When hindered by the darkest dismay
remember some better day
or some fond memory
that can take you away
know others too, feel the same
so in all things that you say
remember empathy
does not go astray

(Bridge)
There's so much negativity
already in the air
so why let my activities
keeps passing on despair
everyone affects the whole
even if we're unaware
we feel it deep inside our soul
and man, I actually care

(Verse)
It's really easier to deal with life
then let it bank up all the time
sinking deeper into strife
while you play make pretend

acknowledge all the pain you feel
express in ways that let you heal
keep your expectations real
give your grief a way to end

To fight against it is to do the undoable, to commit the un~commitable, to survive something whose purpose is to keep one from wanting to do so. I've been clean five years now, so to speak, and though certain meds did help it was me getting up and moving forward that caused the greatest change. It was the refusal to look away from the parts of ME that could be changed as opposed to blaming the world for causing my depression. Absolutely right. Hails.

5 years is quite an achievement, well done! Likewise I took meds for a few yrs to get over the inertia I guess you could say but then it is all me the rest of the way, including change of diet, regular exercise and even aquiring more uplifting music to get me through. You strike me as a strong lady (which of course does not exempt you from having a tender heart or vunerablities by any means) so no doubt you will be one the people to take it by the horns. The first step for some is making the choice not to be beaten. You're right too, the outside world can contribute and entice us but it can't make us act angry or adopt the attitude of failure. We do that. Not saying it isn't hard at times either. Thank you muchly for the comment. ~Ash
