After the Fire

By redfurrydragon

I strike the match, light the kindle, the flame begins the dance
My focus there, within the light, the other life of chance.

Where dreams are real, where night reigns all, they that call it home,
Can live their life in endless pleasure, under moonlight softly shone.

No troubles there, no hurt or pain, each moment of senses filled,
The feelings deep inside the mind, a Dragon of deep red guild.

He sees his other, her wings spread wide, soft features in shiny skin.
Her head held high, her eyes so proud, her breath, his only wind.

They come together, a pair beheld, a force combined from two
Their fellowship, an open book, scripted story of life renew.

She tells him then of secrets above, of humans that bear their names
He strokes her cheeks and protects her well inside the holy flames.

They cannot enter, they cannot hear, our hearts and lives inside,
The life we share within this realm, reserved for our confide.

The humans who share our inner thoughts, cannot begin to see
The joy it means to be Dragon kind, or of what you mean to me.

Not lovers we, but rather more, a pair of kindred same.
In this realm, this place, our home, what humans call a flame.

The fuel now gone, the fire now embers, the other life it seems,
In that place of Dragons, through flames bright orange, the vision now just dreams..

Glad your screenname includes the furry adjective. I wrote a poem of the same title around Thanksgiving time, but the subject was completely different. Much enjoyed the tale, someting from the novels perhaps?

Thank you for the praise... I have contrived several short stories although this was not parallel to any of them..
