Scattered Thoughts

By steven winters

i read a thousand blank pages just to cherish the sound of the man who laughs alone.

Behind his curtain of doubt the ageless  dreamers haunted my every waking thought were a thousand lives were lived for me .

They poured whispers laced with poison into my ears clouding my judgment so all my wrongs were right and all my rights were wrong.

The beat of my heart has been replaced by the sound of guitars being plucked tunelessly to the rhythm of the mute girl dancing to the sound of her own singing.

All the shadows have become ravens come to pick me clean of the false face i wear for this world.

Underneath is revealed the face of the child who cries when left alone .

When the ravens leave there feathers fall away leaving behind the crippled forms of words that were never said.

All the i love you's i meant to say lay still born in my mouth never having the chance to blossom into the reassurance that they  were meant to inspire.

My eyes open to the colors of your smile i close my eyes and reopen them.

The smile is replaced by a snarl that is all teeth gleaming and sharp to rip my throat out but instead of blood flowing out there is only tears .

The tears that you gave to me when i told you how i felt i kept them inside of me refusing to allow them to pour from my eyes as if they were my own.

All the words that spilled onto the paper were crossed out so that my thoughts would not over lap yours.

As i held you we became as one two halves together to make one being all my fear was dissolved in that second that we became as one and only longing was left to fill the void of its passing.

You know, writing poetry sn't just about rhyming and flow. Poetry is about what's inside your heart...inside your mind... Write what comes to mind, as you've been doing. That is poetry....This is poetry. I can't tell you how enjoyable this was to read. Thank you for posting. An excelllent piece. Brava!! Oh, and welcome to the woods;)
