Wallow

By nur hidayah

In a truck bound north
Stars give chase as we rumble deep into the limbo.
I sing myself hoarse
Mute song, wind-stolen
Crouching ‘neath her handmade halo.

Everything that mattered
Happened in the eldritch streetlight glow.
The moon sweated silver
Crackling ‘neath my sole
Wherever she wanders, blindly I will follow.

She says, “Watch the hourglass as
It trickles along with your tricky sorrow.”
Her eyes were day-clear
Lashes loose and love-singed
Her clockwork heart beats loud and hollow.

Arms spread, she smiles
She radiates and droops like a weeping willow.
The city below us
Cacophony of coincidences
Singing with the flight of things she’ll forgo.

This night I speak to her
In a language of stale air and shadow.
Don’t be there, she says
Cos I’m on my way, she says
Stay put but hover close

to our inevitable tomorrow.
