The Perfect Pen

By odetobarbie

Dancing from sunbeam to sunbeam
ignoring shadows seeping in shade
Darting from distraction to distraction
fleeing time's pitiless gaze

To find the perfect pen
To find the perfect pain

Treading softly on eggshells and crackers
refusing carpets of windshields and cardboard
Dressing in spun glass skirts and gunny sack tube tops
selling cool whip leotards with kitty cat gloves

To kiss the face of doubt
To kiss the face of worst

Crying tears of wasted yesterdays and tomorrows
understanding that to choose is to live
Clinging desperately to walls slick with fear
letting go meaning life and death

To sleep with ice and fire
To sleep with tepid yearning

Strolling through waist deep sorrow
flicking regret off anxious skin
Passing by countless trapeze saviors
losing precious moments minute by minute

To feel the sunlight's gaze
To feel the diamond's strength

Halting squarely in existence's circle
throwing stars of now and forever
Shattering skylight memories
showering in shards of ultimate lies

To choose the perfect pen
To choose the perfect pain
