Innocence Abandoned

By Dead_Weight

I was out in the tool shed
dancing with maggots
while moms boyfriend was in the house
prancing like a faggot
he thought he was king shit
the toughest bird in the roost
yill mom pulled the knife out her back
and realized his ruse
she sent his ass packed
walcking down the street
and i appreciated the gesture
but my psyche it had been beat
he opened up my mind
down to its cellar
doing shit unheard of
and my mom i couldnt tell her
i just kept it bottled up
always changing the locks
tiptoeing through his shadows
afraid to fucking talk
I became friends with my demons
they are my guardian angels
they always watch my back
and cover all the angles
still sometimes it gets so dark
that even they cant see
and once again the past
throws its memories at me
I can see a small boy
broken and abandoned
beaten and bruised
not sure why it happened
I can see a little girl
the little girl is his sister
he wonders if she feels it too
then his rage becomes a twister
he takes all that he is given
but cant stand to see her hurt
so he sacrifices himself to punishment
at the hands of a drunken jerk
enabling her to live her life
with her innocence untainted
throwing himself into the abyss
an escape for her he painted
so now even though hes damaged
he can still carry himself with pride
for he saved his little sister
as he let his innocence die

Stunning. The narrative was very powerful and impacting. It breaks my heart to see someone hurt at such a young age and yet it happens. I could relate to the love felt for his sister; my brother and I keep each other safe as well. Well done. The imagery was fantastic as well. I could see everything that was going on.
