Summer Cleaning

By Ashes the Emo Fae

Opening boxes formerly sealed shut
Memories escape once lost and forgotten
The past is relived
Emotions of that time well inside
Threatening to burst and undo everything
Setting things back to the way they were

Where's the knife?
I must hide it
Can't let myself fall into that pit again
Where's the liquor?
Don't look for it
The burn won't cure the numbness this time
Where's my music?
Safest Option
Drown it all out

Keep the pain from emerging to the surface
No one must know of those memories
Just because I remember them
Doesn't mean they should too

Quick
Seal the boxes
Shut everything out again
Throw them away
Don't release the skeletons and daemons again
Hide the reminders
They help not
Seal the past
Live in the present
Don't worry about the future quite yet
