5 Seconds

By Daryl Bracken

I lay on my back looking up at the sky
I see the blade as it hangs high
I see it plunge downward and slice like a scythe
I see as my head tumbles and falls

they say your life flashes before your eye
you relive your whole life before your die
you see your hopes and dreams in all there glory
you see the things you did even the gory

5 seconds they say you have to relive your life
5 seconds to relive all of the strife
5 seconds to remember the love of your wife
5 seconds to recall your whole damn life

They say for 5 seconds you see all you've done
and then all is forgotten forever gone
this may be but for me 5 seconds is to long
I would rather just die and be over and gone

I don't want to remember the things that brought me here
I never had memories I would call dear
I only have thoughts that I fear
I don't need 5 seconds to relive this time here

Now for 5 seconds I see that in awe
they hold my head up and I can see all
My body lies headless detached and so small
for 5 seconds I see no life memories just how I fall

Those last two stanzas I liked the best. Flow was a bit choppy at times but liked the concept and your outlook on it. 5 seconds of truth of who you have been over an entire lifetime sounds like too long indeed. Thank you for sharing and welcome to DP :)
