They came from beyond the sea

By Mithiras

The golden yellow wheat is soon turned to ash
As the ground begins to shake in terror and clash
Far beyond the sea come a threat of untold
Coming to make our land their own

They travel on dark ships with dragon head prows
They wear their hair long and hold their heads proud
They are warriors through and through
They come to make all things renewed

They only make War it is their only way of life
They all love to fight and they only know strife
Even though we've done nothing to deserve death
They come anyway and shower upon us like dragons breath

They are numerous and strong and have many names
they are known umongst us as vikings, and the danes
We must fight them off to remain honourable and free
A united saxon britian is what we wish to be

Call the Fyrdmen, grab your weapons and horses
Sound the alarm they'll soon be at our door steps
I must protect my family and my lands oh dear
No it is far too late for they are already here

We will fight them no matter the cost
We all will unite under one banner the cross
Through Jesus Christ our lord full of grace
We will send this new beast to their destined fate

We formed a mighty shield wall opposite of the danes
Though we out numbered them their martial skill was famed
I stood at the front ahead of my troops and children
Far to the east I heard a horn blow I bowed "amen"

Uthred the strong they called him and he came with many
Veterans of past battles and the slayer of a plenty
He was raised a dane but fought a Saxon
In retort to his horn we made a mighty claxon

Forward we marched towards the Danish line
Forward we climbed one inch at a time
Finally we made it shield wall against shield wall
Now only time will tell who will begin to fall

The fight was bloody I can barely recall the horrors
Many of my sons fallen slain their faces filled with horror
I lifted up my sword and yelled a mighty warcry
"For God above and you Danes will all parish and die!"

Now that the battle is won we stand gloriously
Upon the field of battle we hang out heads religiously
Thank the lord for giving us freedom and protecting our land
Here comes another threat they're called the Normans my lad

They came from beyond the sea like a traveling wispy mist
All at once we sighed again "when will they all quit"
Eventually you will all see what a united britian would be
Because it is "they" who come from beyond the sea

This seems like a mighty ballad to me, and it is also quite refreshing from what is usually on here. Excellent, *tips hat*

Men back in the days where to be a "man" was to be a warrior, and live by the word. The vikings proved to be such a force because they devoted themselves to a single purpose, something modern military training tries to create in the mind of a soldier, though it will never be the same as back then when they were born into it. Wield a sword from the age you could carry it, and reach honor. Though ruthlessness was much the case here, that factor was there, buried maybe. Nicely done here brother, write on
