Behind the living mask.
By SilentDreamer
I'm sure many of you have felt like this, I know I do. Always seems like
I have this front up. I'm trying so hard to clean myself from it but it
does not seem to want to go. This poem is about me.
---------------------
Smile shifts over my lips,
my eyes take up a shine.
I walk with a spring in my step,
my shoulders pulled back.
Picture perfect person.
Under all the skin,
under all the muscle.
Deep in the mind,
stored in the bones,
I cry.
Smile faded away,
my eyes watered down.
My feet shift slowly across the floor,
my shoulders rolled forward.
Sad solitude silhouette.
Nothing seen to your eyes,
it’s all hidden under the mask.
One that sheds each night,
reforms with the rising sun.
No paint plastered upon the mask,
fresh… clean… free and uncovered,
but hidden
As I walk past you.
I’ll send you a smile,
with a cry you won’t hear.
I’ll show you the sparkle in my eyes,
but the welling tears you’ll miss.
Perfect porcelain person.
You won’t hear my cries.
Don’t fret my dear,
you’re not the only to be fooled.
My mask is thick… hard.
It’s melting.
Time passed,
moments changed me.
Wearing and tearing away at the mask.
Lessons learned,
heart and mind screaming to be heard.
Still the mask lives.
Sending silent screams.
Not too soon,
the mask will melt,
crumble under the weight of tears.
You and everyone else,
will see my pain,
and hear,
my cries.
For now I shall remained masked,
with no paint upon my visage.
Until the masks fails,
all that is unseen shall be seen.
Posed protected persona.
