Berth Day

By Step_20

Because I’ve got no grail to chase
A hollow look adorns my face
It’s the little things, a grinning sting
that’s giving me the shakes

Because my birthdays come and go
and though I may grow oh so old
There’s a single thing, a melody
A song all of my own

It goes...

‘A slap, a bruise
and nothing’s new
a happy one for you

impending spew
of breathing brew
the life of those who never knew

Hey, hey it gets better
if it doesn’t, who would ever
allow such things, like children’s games
to pile up,
I argue, ?’

Because it never seems to cease
I’ll cry and drug myself to sleep
this season weeps of fleeting things
I never meant to be

And so a voice inside of me
Cries out for anonymity
Searching through leads back to you
while fear leads back to me
