one day (.a.goodbye.)

By Cassandra

witnesses to ballet performances across summer railroads
i clutch your calloused hand in desperation to relive
an orphaned heart abandoned on the doorstep of your snowflake lashes.

trapped within a locket bound to half a heart and a bruised soul
tranquility is lost within glass flowers delicately placed over lagoon murals
where Greek gods and goddesses are handmade - sculptures of morality
___i imagine your birth from monarch butterflies in an orchard of magnolias
scented with half-eaten candy apples from the hands of Eve
i am convinced you are from the shores of Eden -
God bless us.

enveloped in a quilt of plush rainbows and a typical oasis
i recall blowing icicle lullabies into your ears when i believed
that they would be the very last thing you heard before your eyes opened
and you collapsed into my pocket for safe-keeping from the rain.

and even now your remainders pollute pillowcases with candy smells
where i dream of ballerinas dancing in Alaska in midwinter for attention
i desire nothing more than for my heart to explode in your arms all over again.

i beg of you, love:

for one day - drop your narcissistic tendencies
for one day - hold my hand and show me to the world
for one day - match your heartbeat with mine
for one day - make me feel.

please.

at least smile me a goodbye.
