no longer

By Father_Faust

in the breezeway
I found the drops
little red dots
sticky and hot
spaced here and there
I wasn't quit sure from where
I carried my groceries into the house
and set them on the counter
when I realized
the house was quiet as a mouse
no sound of the dog barking
no sound of the t.v
no blaring musicto irritate me
I wondered where everybody could be
and decided to just wait and see
I wouldn't call for them to help me unpack
I would just put the groceries away
and wait for them to come back
peace and quiet, just for me
for just a little while I could be free
no whiny kids
"make me something to eat"
no sibling rivelry
"mom she hit me"
no teenage bitching
"where are the car keys"
no husband complaining
"wash these" "fold these"
"can you find these"
nobody here but me to please
this would be so easy
after my nap I started to think
they must have taken the dog
for one hell of a walk
supper was done
and still there was no one
at a friends house
is where i would find my son
at the park is probably
where my daughter had run
without the car
my husband hadn't went far
most likely, to the neighbor out back
hopefully the dog was with some one
not running loose, trying to act cute
I was just putting the supper away
when there came a knock
and on my porch there stood a cop
my family had been found
buried shallow in the ground
their throats had been slit
with my own kitchen knife
I'm no-longer a mother
no-longer a wife
no-longer any reason for life
