Of honeyed vines

By LordBrosnian

Far above It sat enthroned upon a brazen vine...
Rubust and slender all in one it sang
As winds embraced its majesty and light cast down its shine
I dreamt to rest beside it and to hang

Just out of reach for fiending grips I swore that 'twould be mine
Great stones I stacked abreast one at a time
Until there were no stones for me to find
I scaled the rock with victory now swelling in my mind
As far beneath, the stones fell as I climbed...

Afar I looked to see a crooked bite had left its mark
Upon my precious jewel of honeyed vines!
Relentlessly I clawed against the moist and crumbling bark
Cursing to the Gods that 'twould be mine!

And As I clawed my fingers bled with passion and with wine
Agaisnt the deeper coarser bark my flesh began to grind
yet still I delved while craving for that vine
Beneath a velvet sky the sun reclined
Until the moon the velvet fell behind
Still gleaming in the lurid beams my precious jewel didst shine

Thro midnight fog and dews of dawn my brittle hands didst dig
Until the other side of bark was reached
With thunder and with might I pushed against a force so big
Until the sounds of cracking branches shrieked
Into the air the splitting branches leaked
Against the brazen, brittled leaves my tired footsteps creaked

Resting top the hummocks fur it mocked me as it sat
Singing for my lips to kiss its skin
To bite and taste the nectars deep within...
And in the pleasures of her taste I'd swim
Reaching for my Prize I didst begin
With tightened grip I felt the seering pain shooting within
Dropping It I screamed to see my cracked and broken skin
With crooked fingers bending as a grin

It rolled along the slope and with its wabbled speed I trailed
and bent down hoping for my tongue to lick
The nectars which dwelt deep within so thick
Alas as my tongue skulk'd to take a sip
Aghast I spit upon the ground a bitter taste so sick
Which on my sweating tongue began to stick
This piquant jewel - whilst bitten - now lay rotten to the quick
