Joy

By Dolly_Fatale

I never fail to remember
Electric blue
…the flame of a lighter,
died out too soon
I thought it the clock
Echoing your breath through the room
But not, it was my heart
With an ever ferocious boom
Filtered out though locked lashes
‘t was only I who heard
her rolling over past midnight
From an ache; not of bone
Leaving ghosts to tiptoe
Desperately down the front walk
Crying to pick up words
That’d fallen between
Cracked stones
The night they passed fingertips
Like liquid down hands
Electric blue
…the moonlight
reflected on her hair
or hair reflecting moonlight
it didn’t matter, she was there
or were you?
The flame
…died out too soon
It was only the clock left echoing
My heart through an empty room
With an ache that felt like home
and tears shed well past noon
