Nightmares

By Dekika

I wake up,
in a pool of my own sweat.
Nightmares.
My heart races.
Sweat turns to cold sweat.
I continue sleeping.

I wake up,
in a puddle of my own tears.
Nightmares again.
My mind surges.
What does it all mean?
I continue sleeping.

I wake up,
in a pit of my own fright.
Nightmares always.
My body shakes.
Fear turns to angst.
I lie awake.

But still I wake up,
in a thunderstorm of screaming.
Nightmares,
only I wasn't asleep this time.
Angst turns to horror.
I lie unbearably awake.
