Goodbye My Friend

By Bloody_Hands

Slowly I drag
my feet up the steps
One after another
All the same
All alike
Just life my life

I pause and take
In a breath
Soon I wont have
To feel this

I’m anxious to
End it now
But I cannot
Not until I reach
The very top

I begin again
More stairs
More steps
Time slows
To a crawl

Until I finally
Reach the door
Rusted hinges screech
And I wince

My feet shuffle
Forward softly
Shoes against
The ground

Soon I can be free
Of the anxiety I hold
Of the sadness here
Soon

My feet touch the edge
I look down
So many flights
So little to see

I look up
The sun is rising
It is so beautiful
I cant help my smile

Soon things will
Get better
I open my coat
And take a breath

It is the last step
The last thought
I must do this
I cannot stop

My hands raise
Above my head
Fingers spread
I release it

As my dove flies
I turn and cry
Back down the stairs
Good bye my friend

(To my friend, who I had to let go)
