Darling, Lets Get a Cup of Coffee

By SnowQueen

Ill have a demitasse
Thank you.
Youre always late
In a world where you can depend on nothing
I can depend on you, this, and us.

I love the awkwardness we both feel
Because it has been a while.
How gently you slip behind me
And slide into your seat
As if youve been there all the while

I love the nothingness we speak of
Holding conversations about men
And the stupid things they do
Laughing at our experiences and
Wondering why we shed tears in the beginning

I love the familiarity of it all
I can rely on your Mona Lisa smiles
Telling the same stories as if they were new
Remember that??
I know just what you mean.

I love that we can be conversing about anything
From this weeks thrift- store anythings
To the meaning of it all
Stirring away the nervousness
Letting the hours drift away..

I love that after a cup of black coffee,
You bare yourself to me
And there is such beauty in your breakdown
Creating a colourful mosaic of emotions for me
You will never be obvious.

Burnt umber thoughts linger in the air
With the scents of your espresso
In our favourite place
Im happy when I hear
Darling, Lets get a cup of coffee.

I think the 'Mona Lisa smiles' line is wonderful in particular, followed closely by 'burnt umber thoughts'. Lovely. purr

if you love "awkwardness" (taking you out of context) than phrases such as "I can depend on you, this, and us" must set your world aflame. Seriously (the rhythm's not the important thing), enjoyed the sentiment.

very rich: last lines of stanzas have a stark beauty/meaningfulness

This left me with a vivid image. As if you had painted a picture on the inside of my mind of two friends sharing coffee and secrets. I felt like I was sitting across from you smelling coffee grounds and eavesdropping on your stories.
