Still Holding On (a story)

By Nightmare

I woke up startled by the news
Had to hurry
Need to see you
One more time
Feeling sleepy trying not to drift
Everything is so slow
Can't get there fast enough
Need to be there for you before you go

Finally by your side
Tubes and wires all around
Blood flowing from a source unknown
Each drip breaking my heart.
Can't see me, but I'm here
I'm holding your hand.
I'm still holding on
I tell them to clean the blood off your face.
They are letting it drip to your hair
I don't think they did a good job
I'm sorry
I left the room just for a minute
They told me to leave.

5
I didn't know
Were you with me in the room?
You're supposed to be in bed
I wanted to go back, really I did
They said no
Why did you go?
You weren't supposed, not yet.
We had plans to take out the kids when you felt better.

Finally they let me go back in the room to see you
But you were gone, it was too late.
I'm so sorry I wasn't there.
A lifeless body was all that was left
It was cold
I still held your hand, I layed on your chest and held you close, I didn't care.
I hope you know I still love you
I love you so much
I'm so so lonely.
If you had to go so bad, I hope you're better and happier now.
I'll miss you, it took you too soon.
