If Mirrors Were Honest
By Jenna-Stone181
If mirrors were honest,
they’d show my scars
my still bleeding wounds
they’d reveal my feral nature
my distrust of happiness
If mirrors were honest
they’d show my chains I wear
the warnings that are etched on my skin
the truths that my eyes both hide and betray
If mirrors were honest
they’d show I’m not long for this world
That I live for others
they’d show my fading presence
and dulling eyes
they’d show the gaping hole
where my heart once was
If mirrors were honest
they’d show the darkness
that threatens to engulf me
and the flickering flame of my hope
If mirrors were honest
they’d show the monster I am
and the warrior I’ve become
through trials and betrayals
through dreams and hope
If mirrors were honest
I wouldn’t have to be

It's hard to be honest. It's hard to ask for help. Especially when you don't want it. If your reflection was of your soul rather than your physical vessel- would you love the honesty or hate it?

The sad thing about mirrors is that they only show what is visible, not the hidden reality we all face in some fashion or other. I will say that when we stop being honest with ourselves, that is when hope dies. This is a painful read, darlin'. I hope that you can find peace. Rebs:).
