Death of a romance

By Jennanselmo

As the romance dies, the flame grows weak
Flickering violently birthing the hope we seek
Holding on to a person, a memory, or a thing
Is holding you back from simply living
And if I can change, if I can become anew
I promise to never look back for you
I will press on without you, without you holding me down
And I will rise above you until my feet have left the ground
Understand this, I will never be like you
We are not the same you nod as if you knew
I can no longer rationalize the irrational behavior you keep
I can no longer settle so I am going to rise to my feet
And if you think for one moment I could care about you again
I refuse to allow it, to allow myself to let you back in
so try what you will I won’t retaliate in any form
the sky began to turn black as we prepared to brace the storm

You are very strong-willed to not let that person back in your life with what seems to me that you felt so deeply. Keep going; it's hard, but worth it. :)
