Fire's Edge

By lshidonil

I held her close,
begging fate to change,
to let her stay.

Losing her,
is losing the last of my broken soul.
I'd rather jump,
before she can even touch the flames.

Fear is ice,
slithering through my veins.
Fear reflects in her eyes.

She nods at me,
she's ready to go.
My heart clenches,
threatening to take her back home.

Home lies too far from heaven,
and too close to hell.
But it brings comfort,
though the fire burns.

Being warm,
is risking the chance of being burned.

She is my home.
My flame.
I'd rather burn,
than let the ice of fear take over me.

I hug her tightly,
tears running down my cheeks as we stand on the edge.
She wipes them away,
saying that I shouldn't ever be sad.

I know she knows I think the same thing,
as I watch the crystals drip down her beautiful face.

She steps off the edge,
her eyes connected with mine.

And I can see,
she had my name on her sweet, sweet lips.
