Musician's Lament

By nkronsch

A burst of melodic inspiration
Sweet notes, harmony
Quells the hurt of nothing
Drowns the scream of silence

But strings can't vibrate forever;
With the death of the final note
I sink into thought
My haywire, neurochemical Hell

"It is odd to consider dying
But an odd choice to live on."

And as my vision blurs
I realize

"I can't live with him anymore,

The one operating this ride, my mind.

Might as well shoot the driver
before he kills
in his drunken insanity
out of pointless endeavour and spite."

Yet I play on...

Whether a coward or a hero
to spare myself at other's cost

I live, I live,

I live, I live,

I live to play on.

A musician truly lives for that: this was honest, dark and full of emotion. Music is worth of the soul that executes it... therefore it's worth of you. Amazing.
