Aokigahara

By namelessmadi

People said the forest was nice
It takes you in when you’re sad
And never lets you down twice

It will hang you high in the swaying breeze
I guess you could say
This is the forest no one leaves

The maze of twisting dead trees and moss
Leaves you confused and scared
For you begin to realize
you are slowly becoming lost

You start to become tired and weak
The forest has sucked you in
 its soothing atmosphere
But wasn’t this the place you seek?

I suppose this is where the end is near
You lie down on the floor
And shed one last empty tear

As if with opens arms the forest presents you with a rope
You already know what to do with it
You already know how to cope

You tie the knot tight and firm
Now to climb to the tallest branch
As your fumbling hands try not to squirm

You secure the rope high and tall
You look down and mutter
“That’s not that far of a fall”

Your heart race slows
as you realize you will soon reach complete bliss
And after all,
Who would everyone really miss?

Take one more deep breath
It’s the final time you will
Because this forest has only one intention:
And that intention is to kill

It’s not to comfort
And it’s not to save
It’s where people come
To spend there last day

This forest is filled with deep sorrow and pain
You already know this
You’re perfectly sane

But you begin to question these things
As you look down below
You didn’t think it was possible
To feel this low

“Just fucking do it already”
You tell yourself while choking back tears
Once you hit the end of the rope
You release all your elapsing years

Placed around your neck
you take your last step
Off the rotten branch
Down to the forest’s depths

As you strike the end of the rope
You feel a forceful squeeze
You felt it only for a second
As your last sight was your tomb’s dead leaf

There you did it
Do you feel better now?
The forest surely does
As it drapes you like a shroud

How long will you hang there?
God only knows
It could be hours, days or even years
As the somber wind blows

You entered the forest with a tortured mind
You chose to end your life
And leave only a hallow body behind

This is Aokigahara
 The suicide forest of Japan
You are now free from it all,
The everlasting pain, hurt, and sorrow
And this possessed land

Author's Note:

This is about a place called "Aokigahara" in Japan. It is widely known to be a place with high suicide ratings, second in place from the Golden Gate Bridge i the US. Bare with me, I haven't written in quite sometime but I came up with this recently

Sea of Trees is the translation. Looking down from Mt. Fuji, it looks like a sea of trees. The Japanese government do a monthly sweep of the area to collect the bodies. There is a man that works for the Forestry dept. that enters the forest daily to find and talk people out of killing themselves. Quite sad, really.
